Phone Screen Hz Test — What It Measures

This free phone screen Hz test measures your mobile display's actual refresh rate in real time using the browser's requestAnimationFrame API. Unlike OS settings menus which only show your configured maximum Hz, this tool shows the actual live Hz — including when LTPO panels dynamically switch between rates.

What is LTPO and Why Does It Matter?

LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) is the panel technology behind adaptive refresh rate on modern flagship phones. An iPhone 15 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will dynamically vary from 1Hz on a static lock screen to 120Hz during scrolling — saving battery life while maintaining smoothness. Use this test to watch your phone's Hz change as you interact with the browser.

What is Stutter Jitter?

Stutter jitter is the standard deviation of your frame delivery times. Even if your phone averages 120Hz, inconsistent frame delivery creates perceived stuttering. A jitter value under 1ms is excellent. Values above 3ms may indicate thermal throttling, background app interference, or display driver issues.

Hz Visual Smoothness Comparison

The moving objects section lets you visually compare your screen's refresh rate against 60Hz and 30Hz reference speeds. Switch between UFO, Ball, and Bar animations, and try different background colors — Cyan and Lime are especially useful for revealing LCD pixel ghosting and overdrive artifacts on your phone's panel.

Phone Refresh Rate Guide

  • 60Hz — Standard. Common on mid-range and budget phones. Adequate for everyday use.
  • 90Hz — Noticeably smoother scrolling. Common on mid-range flagships.
  • 120Hz — Flagship standard. Very smooth for gaming and social apps.
  • 144Hz — Gaming-focused phones (ASUS ROG Phone, RedMagic series).
  • 1–120Hz LTPO — Adaptive. Battery efficient with dynamic Hz switching.
